Whether it’s personal, professional, or anyone else in between, our lives are made up of several types of relationships. Oftentimes, we get comfortable with the people that we care about, not realizing that they may not be reciprocating, nor contributing to our growth. Understanding the relationships we keep can be a challenge; life responsibilities, commitments, and decisions can all get in the way.
So how do we break a cycle, if we’re not even aware we’re in it? First, we have to step back, slow down and take an emotional self-audit. Let’s ask ourselves a few questions:
Do I recall the last time I feel really happy?
Do I spend time for myself to recharge and rejuvenate?
Do I remember when a colleague, relative, friend and other relationships reached out to me to really ask how am I doing?
Do I feel inclusivity with my circle of friends, family and colleagues?
Do I know when I am being taken advantaged-off?
If you say “NO” to all the above … it’s time to focus on self-worth and self-care. It’s also time to step away from toxic relationships that are causing stress and unhappiness. Pouring from an empty cup can cause serious health issues in the long term. But, you have the power to take control. You can assess which of these relations are the culprits, and take that necessary step towards a healthier, more enriching life.
Again … it’s so easy to let things slide and think of doing this when you have the time. But putting it off might result in an aggravated situation that’s tougher to untangle.
Making time for yourself may be the last thing on your mind, but if you are healthy physically, emotionally and mentally, you have more love to give. Don’t procrastinate … life is short! You just need to make a commitment and stay focused on yourself, which should be your priority. This could be the best thing you can do for yourself today, and if you don’t … who will?
We at Karmascore can help you assess many of these relationships and identify which ones are weighing you down. You owe it to yourself to keep your sanity, and be happy!
