Slow Down this Summer… Alone Time can be Rejuvenating!

We are all guilty of over-working ourselves. Our busy lifestyle can be to blame; however, there are things that we can do to get ourselves out of this stressful cycle. We just need to look at how we manage our daily activities and prioritize what’s really important. Plan to set aside some alone time to reflect, relax and enjoy the summer!

Let’s start with a digital detox … consider taking a break from social media, emails and other digital distractions. Try to schedule specific times during the day to disconnect and focus on yourself. Create a calming routine that includes activities you find relaxing. This could involve meditation or yoga. If you can’t find time to leave the house, find a quiet room like your bedroom to read your favorite book, or read while having a much-needed bubble bath! Since it’s summer, it’s also important to try and spend time outdoors as much as you can. Bond with nature by going for walks, hikes, or have a picnic in the park. Another great place to visit is a nearby beach or lake where you can lay out on the sand and listen to the water. Think of exploring new horizons and venturing out to new places, and book a flight to Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland. If an overseas trip is not affordable, visit a nearby town with the best spa and pamper yourself.

Another idea to think about is the creative pursuits that you have been postponing due to lack of time. Summer is here and now is a good time to get that hobby started … engage in painting, writing, crafting, dancing, learning a musical instrument or taking singing lessons.

There are so many options to choose from but try to explore the inner passion in you that almost got away. It’s not too late to indulge yourself in a hobby and do something that brings you joy!

A few more self-reflecting ideas to unleash the best version of yourself:

  • Take some time for introspection and self-reflection by journaling

  • Learn the value of quiet contemplating that can help gain clarity

  • Process your thoughts and weed out the negatives

  • Put your emotions in check and plan a relaxing summer calendar

  • Don’t feel guilty about spending time for yourself

  • Set boundaries and communicate your alone time with your loved ones

  • Practice being fully present in the moment and enjoy every minute of your alone time

  • Last but not least … prioritize sleep in a comfortable environment with a bedtime routine
